Your First Consultation
Discovering the Right Solution for You
Living with sleep apnea can completely undermine your life as it drains you of your daytime energy, changes your mood, and prevents you from getting quality sleep. After you’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea, it’s likely you’ve been wearing a CPAP mask every night to relieve your symptoms.
Although CPAP is known as the leading treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), many patients often don’t wear them for the recommended amount of time each night or stop using them altogether. Are you one of the four in five OSA sufferers who can’t comply with their CPAP? Do you ever wonder if there are alternatives to CPAP?
Here at TMJ & Sleep Dentistry Center of Central Kentucky, we want all patients to find a comfortable, convenient solution that they won’t give up on. We offer a variety of alternative treatments to CPAP and can help you get the effective care you need that can save your life.
Meeting with Dr. Takacs
If you’ve been eager to find an alternative to CPAP, Dr. Takacs, a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, can help you discover a suitable treatment for your sleep disorder. When you visit our office for your consultation, Dr. Takacs will review your medical history and your sleep study results that have been provided by your doctor.
This is the best time where we can fully get to know you, your symptoms, and all other aspects of your condition. You’ll also be able to discuss your concerns with your CPAP and let us know what your ideal treatment would be.
Once Dr. Takacs has a good understanding of your OSA, she will begin explaining our most effective and convenient treatment we offer– an oral appliance. She will explain how it works, the estimated cost, show how it’s easily fitted to your jaw, and more. Additionally, she will explain to you additional ways you can help relieve your sleep apnea at home, all on your own.
Questions You Might Ask
We want you to feel confident in the solution you choose and we’re happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about treatment with an oral appliance. Some questions our patients often ask include:
- Why are oral appliances preferred over CPAP?
- Will your treatment help me feel more energized?
- How much will treatment be?
- Will I stop snoring after using an oral appliance?
- Will my insurance cover oral appliance therapy?
We Can’t Wait to Meet You
If you feel like an oral appliance is the most optimal treatment for you, Dr. Takacs will take digital impressions of your teeth and jaw to use for your treatment plan. These accurate depictions of your mouth are then sent to a dental lab who creates your customized oral appliance that will fit precisely to your teeth and jaw.
